The basilica
The basilica dedicated to San Paolo Maggiore, elevated to a minor basilica by Pope Pius XII in the 1951, was built between the 8th and the 9th century by insisting on the pre-existing temple of the Dioscuri, of which two columns with architraves in Corinthian order survive in the façade. Starting from the seventeenth century, various embellishments affected the basilica.
Among the artists are Massino Stanzione, Dionisio Lazzari, Domenico Antonio Vaccaro and Francesco Solimena.
