Il Duomo
The splendid Cathedral of Naples, which rises majestically along the homonymous street, is one of the most important churches in the city. Built in the thirteenth century, obliterating the earlier paleochristian evidence of the oldest basilica and baptistery, it underwent a series of changes that today see the overlap of different styles which, starting from the fourteenth-century Gothic, reach up to the neo-Gothic nineteenth century. Moreover, in the Cathedral, three times a year, it is possible to attend the rite of the dissolution of the blood of the patron saint of the city, San Gennaro.
The excavations
Below the street level, near the Chapel of Santa Restituta, it is possible to visit thearcheological area. Among other testimonies, it is possible to observe the remains of the temple of Apollo, of a late-imperial domus, of traces datable to the IV-V century. AD and part of the Roman age aqueduct.
