Folklore, tradition and craftsmanship for the Native American Festival at the Mostra d'Oltremare in Naples.

From the 30 June to the 2 July and from the 7 to the 9 July 2017, At the Mostra d'Oltremare in Naples, Will be held on Native American Festival, a real re-enactment of the fascination of native culture and spirituality, organized for the great Festival "Naples Meet the World".

Within the areas dedicated to this event you can take a journey to discover an ancient tradition and rich in wisdom, myths and legends. You can wander through an authentic reconstruction of an Indian village where you can see live costumes, tools and weapons used by Native Americans.

You can also participate in numerous activities including songs, typical dances, moments of teaching and it will be possible to listen to the stories of the ancient shamans.

Native American Festival events

Folklore and tradition

At the Native American Festival a vast area will be dedicated to the traditions, customs, customs, habits, rituals and beliefs of the peoples Apaches, Sioux, Navajo, Cheyenne and Mohicani. You will visit a real Indian village that will be rebuilt to the smallest detail with hand-sewn and hand-painted Tepee curtains, tapered curtains, with a large central opening, supported by a structure of wooden poles.

Within this village exhibits of rare objects dating back to the 1600-1700 will be set up: an exhibition of authentic leather, an exhibition of pipes and an area dedicated to medical herbs. During the visit you can listen to the songs and tales of the native peoples and admire the typical dances performed by Indian dancers who will wear special costumes and tribal masks. Healing dances, social dances and the famous "Rain Dance" will be performed which was used to trigger rain during periods of drought.

Myths and legends

At the Native American Festival, great space will be given to the history, myths and legends of these peoples through re-enactments and insights. In the Indian village the shamans and historical experts will sit inside a sweat lodge for illustrate the stories that speak of the myth of creation and the origins of man.

Will be told the hopes of the people of the great American plains, the works of the brave warriors and old wise men, love and respect for nature but above all the endless battles they had to fight during the invasions of the "Whites". Exciting stories that narrate the pride and grandeur of a people.

Shamans and spirituality

At the Native American Festival you can take a journey to discover Indian spirituality, participating in a shamanic circle. Under the Great Totem you will hear the history of these peoples, you will know the shaman rituals, you will hear the voice of Joseph Silverbird one of the last shamans in the world, you will appreciate the wisdom of the Great Spirit Manitù and listen to the voice of the wind.

You can attend at the performance of some Indian dancers who will convey to you, with their movements, the importance of dance, considered a form of expression, communication and emotion. Dance is life and through it many stories will be told that will enchant the audience.

Program of the Native American Festival

Traditional Indian dances

Veri exponents of the Indian tribes they will show you the steps of their traditional dances, wearing costumes and tribal masks. The protagonist will be the Rain dance, ritual used to propitiate the gods and trigger rain in case of drought.

Indian Village

A real Indian village will be set up with cone-shaped curtains built with a structure of wooden poles and covered with sheets and animal skins. There will be typical hunting weapons of Apache or Cherokee warriors, tools, typical clothes, tools and scenes of daily life of Native Americans will be reproduced accompanied by rituals and songs of the shaman. In the center of the village one will light up sacred fire around which stories and legends of the Native American tradition will be told.

Silverbird: Native American shamanism

Silverbird is one of the last descendants of the Indian shamanic tradition, partly Apache partly Cherokee. It has magic and legend in itself and was miraculously healed by a shamanic ritual. For this reason it brings the culture of the shamans into the world, making everyone aware of its intensity and the joy of life it emanates.

Poems and legends of Native Americans

Around the sacred fire of the Indian Village you can listen to legends of this people: the Nantojo Night Song, the Legend of the Sun, the Prayer for Peace, the Songs of the Apache Pride and the Prayer for the Great Spirit.

The sounds of the Indian flute

The Indian flute is one of the oldest instruments in the world and you will be able to listen to its sweet notes. Quervalù, a young Native American descendant musician, will perform traditional songs and songs made famous by films such as The Last of the Mohicans.

American horses Appaloosa

Appaloosa is the western horse par excellence and its name derives from the Palouse river, which crossed the lands of the Nez-Percé tribe, the first to breed it. Famous for their performances in highly engaging equestrian shows, you can admire them in all their elegance at the Native American Festival.

Craftmanship

At the Native American Festival exhibitions will be set up in which will be exhibited a series of handcrafted objects, you can admire the photographic reviews and collections of images of extraordinary beauty.

One of the exhibitions will cover the leather used to make moccasins, costumes, typical clothes, bags, squaw dresses, hats, shoulder bags, tomawowk, dolls, calumet of peace, drums, jewelry and precious headpieces made with colored skins and feathers.

It will be an exhibition of hunting weapons, tools and implements made by the Apache and Dakotae warriors including bows and arrows, daggers, shields, war clubs and whips, a pipe exhibition and an area dedicated to medicinal herbs will also be set up.
