The Lascaux Caves

The famous Lascaux caves are a complex of caves, really fascinating, which are located in the South-western France.

The beautiful complex was discovered on September 12, 1940 and only opened to the public six years later. Subsequently, however, the carbon dioxide produced by the 1.200 daily visitors, it damaged the paintings and therefore the caves were closed and the paintings restored.

Inside the caves there are examples of parietal works of art and Cro-Magnon Man's masterpieces dating back to the upper Paleolithic. The main theme is that of the great animals of the time, including the now extinct auro.
