Extraordinary opening of the Biblioteca dei Girolamini in Naples for the 2016 FAI Spring Days!

As part of the initiative for FAI Spring Days , Library of Girolamini of Naples will remain the 19 and 20 March 2016 open to the public.
Admission is exclusive for FAI members, but it will be sufficient to register on site to access.

The Library has been a cultural institution for the city since the end of the sixteenth century, as it houses ancient and unobtainable volumes. literary, philosophical and historical but also of musical works and periodicals. Unfortunately, due to bad management, thousands of books have disappeared from the archive in recent years and have been stolen, then sold illegally on the black market.

The Library has acquired this treasure thanks also to private donations including the Philippine Fund, mainly of ecclesiastical history, sacred scriptures and theology, the Giuseppe Valletta Fund, consisting of Latin and Greek classics, history and philosophy, and the  Valeri Fund concerning the history of Naples and southern Italy.

For the aforementioned reasons, the structure has been closed for judicial investigations and visitors are forbidden to consult it and visit is allowed only during extraordinary openings.
Fortunately, however, the Director General for Libraries and Archives, Rosanna Rummo, is working hard to open it permanently to the public at least once a month and thus being able to show this heritage that is an inestimable treasure and a place frequented by famous people such as Giambattista Vico.
