Extraordinary opening of monuments in Naples in January 2015

The most beautiful monuments of Naples will open exceptionally to the public, here and when!

Naples will give its citizens the opportunity to visit some monuments that, from 4 to 6 January 2015, will open extraordinarily.

Neapolitans and tourists will be able to admire the Castel Nuovo, the Church of San Severo al Pendino and the churches of the open museum project (San Paolo Maggiore, San Giovanni a Carbonara and Ss. Apostoli).

The Castel Nuovo is the symbol of the Angevin history of the city. Inside you will see the Palatine Chapel, the artistic collections, the Hall of the Barons, the Torre del Beverello and the striking panoramic terraces.

In via Duomo you can enter the Church of San Severo a Pendino, the first seat of the State Archives. Building famous above all for the Sepulchral Monument by Gianalfonso Bisvallo, for the relief depicting Santa Maria a Selice, signed by Girolamo d'Auria, and for the painting by Giordano exhibited on the high altar.

In the Forum of the ancient Neapolis, there will be San Paolo Maggiore. In full Baroque style, the church will delight visitors with the inlaid flooring, i marbles polychrome and the frescoes by Stanzione and Solimena.

Also worth seeing is the gothic San Giovanni a Carbonara. The Basilica is home to the sepulchral monument of King Ladislao and numerous frescoes. Inside it will also be possible to visit the chapels Caracciolo of the Sun, of the Crucifix, Recco, Miroballo, Caracciolo of Vico and Somma.

Finally, the Church of the Ss. Apostoli will also be open to the public, with the masterpieces of Solimena, Lazzari and Benaschi, the Sacristy, one of the most beautiful in the city, and the Crypt where Gianbattista Marino is buried.
