The church of the Pio Monte della Misericordia

Il Pio Monte della Misericordia is an illustrious Neapolitan and Catholic charity founded in the 1602 by seven young Neapolitan nobles who decided to dedicate their lives to good works and to devolve part of their goods to the help of the unhappy. Thus, for over four centuries, the associates of the Pio Monte della Misericordia have been dealing with assist and make charity under various forms, as individual donations or the management and financial support of kindergartens.

On the main altar of the church, in baroque style and with central plan, it can be admired the famous painting by Caravaggio "The Seven Works of Mercy", commissioned by the Governors of Pio Monte della Misericordia, to express love and charity towards one's neighbor through corporal works of mercy.

The quadreria

The rooms of the historic apartment house the Quadreria with paintings by De Mura, Ribera, Giordano, Pitloo, Stanzione e Vaccaro, among others.
