Il Palazzo

The Palazzo Doria d'Angri is located in Piazza VII September, along via Toledo.

It was erected by the will of Marcantonio Doria in the mid-eighteenth century, but ended at the time of his son Giovanni Carlo and on behalf of Luigi Vanvitelli and, then, by Ferdinando Fuga, Mario Gioffredo and, finally, by Carlo Vanvitelli.

The building has a trapezoidal plan and has a white marble façade marked by Tuscan columns, and semi-columns and Ionic pilasters on the upper floor.

The Palace has become famous in the 1860 when, the 7 September, Giuseppe Garibaldi from the balcony he announced to the people the annexation of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies to that of Italy. Event that gave the name to the square in front of which stands the building.
