The archaeological area
The archaeological area of Carminiello ai Mannesi consists of the remains of a Roman thermal complex.
The complex was brought to light at the time of the gods bombings of the 1943 that caused the destruction of the overlying Church of Santa Maria del Carmine at Mannesi and adjacent buildings.
The thermal building can be dated around the end of the first century AD
Structure
The apsed environment with a black and white mosaic floor was probably part of a private residence of the Republican age which, in the Imperial age, was incorporated into the foundations of a larger building with vaulted rooms.
Thermal environments have been identified hydraulic pipelines, some marble tubs and a relief representing the god Mithras in the act of sacrificing a bull.
