What is the time zone in Italy? Hour difference calculator

Collection of alarm clocks. Start of the day, waking up, morning, different time zones.

The tourist who wants to travel to Italy and in particular to Naples must take into consideration that the time zone of the city is equal to the UTC + 1 in the months when the solar time is in force, while it is equivalent to UTC + 2 when daylight saving time comes into effect.

What is UTC time

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time), which coincides with GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), is the reference time zone from which all other time zones in the world are calculated and is equal to that of Greenwich in England. Therefore the Italian one is always to be calculated one hour ahead of the latter. All European countries located in the CET (Central European Time) zone have the same time zone as the Italian one.

The countries that generally join the CET include several European nations:

  1. Albania
  2. Andorra
  3. Austria
  4. Belgium
  5. Bosnia and Herzegovina
  6. Croatia
  7. Czech Republic
  8. Denmark (except the Faroe Islands and Greenland)
  9. France (excluding overseas departments)
  10. Germany
  11. Hungary
  12. Italy
  13. Kosovo
  14. Liechtenstein
  15. Luxembourg
  16. Malta
  17. Monaco
  18. Montenegro
  19. Netherlands
  20. Northern Macedonia
  21. Norway (except Jan Mayen Island and the Svalbard Archipelago)
  22. Poland
  23. San Marino
  24. Serbia
  25. Slovakia
  26. Slovenia
  27. Spain (excluding the Canary Islands, which follow WET/WEST)
  28. Sweden
  29. Switzerland
  30. Vatican City

How it works and when summer time is switched on and off in Italy

In Italy, summer time is set every year at night between Saturday and the last Sunday of March at 2 in the morning: this means that the clock hands must be moved forward one hour. Daylight saving time remains in force until the last Sunday of October, a day in which we return to solar time by moving the hands back one hour at 3 in the morning.

If you are a tourist, this is important information to keep in mind since not all countries in the world use summer time!
