Commissioned in 1679 to the Neapolitan goldsmith Michele Dato, as an ornament for the Bust of San Gennaro, the necklace was later enlarged with other precious stones donated from kings and queens who reigned or who passed through Naples and who transformed the necklace into a extremely valuable object, full of golds, diamonds and emeralds.
