ZTL Historic Center of Naples: changes and new bus lines

The ZTL of the historic center of Naples will undergo changes for the opening times and permits and will set up new bus lines

They come of the changes to the ZTL of the Ancient Center of Naples, the one that includes the streets in the area between via Foria, via San Giovanni a Carbonara, corso Umberto and via Pessina.

The proposal was made by the Councilor for Mobility of the Municipality of Naples Mario Calabrese and the new resolution will bring about changes to the rules of the restricted traffic area of the historic center, after years of modifications and improvements, in order to facilitate the movement of residents and non-residents.

The novelties concern the opening times of the gates, the issue of access permits and the means of transport to facilitate movement within the ZTL itself. Let's see them in detail.

Access times and access permits

The resolution approved by the City Council has established new timetables for the gates of the area, thus also allowing to unify the access permits to them and ensure that residents can access from any gate. The times are as follows:

  • Varchi Miroballo, Duomo, Santa Sofia: active from 9.00 to 18.00 every day of the week
  • Gates of via del Sole and Mezzocannone: from Monday to Thursday active from 9.oo to 18.oo; from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays and before holidays from 9.00 to 24.00.

In addition, the provision provides for the removal of the flower boxes that prevent transit in via Nilo and establishes the institution, again in via Nilo, of the unique way from via dei Tribunali to via San Biagio dei Librai.

New bus and minibus lines

To allow travel within the ZTL, two new bus lines will be established from 10 December 2014, which will connect the following areas with frequent runs:

  • E1 line: between Piazza del Gesù, via Duomo and the Forcella area
  • E2 line: between Vesuvian square, that is the square in front of the Circumvesuviana station of corso Garibaldi, via Duomo and the Forcella area
  • frequency: they will be circulating between 07.30 and 19.00 hours with variable frequencies between 20 'and 40'

Furthermore, again from 10 December, they will circulate in the Ancient Center 11 new "Centro" type minibuses. These are means already presented as part of the European Week of Sustainable Mobility, also on lines C51, C52, 12 and C68.
